Very Good

: The host, David was very polite and helpful. There was a nice personalised welcome gift on our arrival. David called to check everything was going OK and even sent a better spatula round after I mentioned the small wooden spatula was a bit awkward to cook with. I liked that he seemed genuinely concerned about his guests and that everything was good for their stay (note, I did not find this with Sykes Cottages, as I mention later). The furnishings in the flat were good quality, clean and comfortable. I thought the bed was comfortable and had no problem getting to sleep. The kitchen was stocked with the essentials, I've seen better there in other places I've stayed in, as the cooking items were quite worn, but it was sufficient for a week's holiday. The Wi-Fi and Internet connection in the property were solid and reliable. The TV was a decent size and good quality, and there was NowTV, which was useful on an evening. The flat is very conveniently located just off the main street in Keswick and comes with a very useful dedicated parking space. Obviously there is some noise impact of being so close to everything, but it's worth it I think. You can quite easily walk to Derwentwater, Castlerigg stone circle and the fells near Keswick from the flat without driving. There are plenty of nice food places, and two supermarkets close by also.
: There was an excessive amount of noise from outside the property early morning from the Co-op next door. Each morning between 6:30am and 7am I was woken up by lots of trolleys being manoeuvred, which are circa 5 meters or so from the bedroom window. If you're an early riser I guess this won't bother you. We also had noise from the flat above on the last few days, you could hear them stomping around, banging doors, talking, and even singing! I didn't think Sykes holiday cottages were very helpful nor did much to earn their money, it was the property owner who was helpful. The reason I think that when we called in to pick up the keys the staff didn't seem very friendly, and on leaving we had to strip all the beds and take out the rubbish ourselves at the end of the stay, which seemed to be offloading the job of the cleaner onto us. I've not seen this before in other holiday accommodation, and I've stayed in quite a few. There was also no key safe at the property, so you have to walk across Keswick, or drive if you want to brave with traffic and limited parking, in order to collect the keys and return them again at the end of the stay. The windows need replacing, the ones in the living room had been screwed shut at the bottom, but could still be opened from the top by sliding the window down. The bedroom window had pieces of wood screwed to it outside to stop the window dropping too far. This wasn't a big problem to us, just seemed like they were very old windows that need attention. They were single glazed also (or seemed to be) and did nothing to block any noise from outside when closed. Check out from the property is very early, 9:30am, which is the earliest I've seen in any holiday let or hotel I've ever stayed in.
