  : 29 Madeira Hostel offers excellent value for money. It is located right in the heart of Funchal, just a short walk from everything the city has to offer. It is modern and stylish, clearly a lot of thought has gone into the decor which is beautiful throughout the property. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable, the shared bathroom setup worked fine and I was never waiting as each toilet and shower has its own separate cubicle, with the sink area shared. The shared kitchen and courtyard are well kept, and the kitchen is well organised. I didnt really use these much though as I was only staying one night. I travelled to the hostel in a hire car which I was able to park in the multi-storey just across the road. It was only 6 to park overnight (as I was parked there for less than 24 hours in total), however make sure to check the opening days/times of the car park as your car is locked in when the car park is closed! Luckily this was not an issue for me, as the opening times fitted with my plans.
  : My room was on the top floor and as it was not air-conditioned it was a bit stuffy, even with the window open. The hostel has wooden flooring everywhere which looks beautiful but can be quite noisy when people are moving around, I also found the walls did not stop much sound, so I could hear people talking in the other rooms which made it hard to sleep later on.Overall though it was a good place to stay, fantastic location and good value for money.

  : The big minus is the floors, which squeak in the evening, day and night. it was difficult to bear. Also insulation needs perfection.

  : Easy late check in: I arrived after the reception was closed and I could easily access the property by using a padlock. The communication with the staff was also great and they were very kind. Location in Funchal is also good and you can go everywhere by foot.
  : The room didn't meet my expectations from Booking pictures. The price was good but the room was: a matress over a 'structure' on the floor, two lamps and a chair. To use the bathroon you had to go to another floor. So, I would recommend it to have some privacy and to stay in the city center but just for a day or two.
