  : I liked the lobby! Really nice! The food was good too and the breakfast area was really cozy and inviting. Loved the old building feeling and the lounge. We arrived a little earlier before our checkin time, the hostess was kind enough to allow us to leave our luggage at the lobby and when we came back, it was already in our room. Personnel was kind and attentive. The place its in a good nice location, and if you enjoy walking, its a 15 minute walk to the Edinburgh castle and all other sight worthy places. Good location for us.
  : The room was kind of too small for us. It was nice and clean but we felt a little bit clumped inside the room with bags and all. The bed was also small for a big couple like us. There is no parking near and the closest one is 15 minutes walk away. You leave yoir bags at the hotel, and then you need to drive to the public parking near Edinburgh castle and walk 15 mins back to the hotel. We like to walk, so we didn' mind, its just a little bit of an inconvenience.

  : The breakfast was excellent with a good range of vegan & vegetarian options - we particularly liked the haggis. The period features were gorgeous and the history of the building was very interesting.The room was clean and tidy with the usual amenities of kettle, tea, and biscuits. It is a nice place to stay with a good location to explore Dean Village and the museums.
  : The shower head was a little on the short side (I was too tall to fit under it!) Also, when we came to check out, there was no way to attract any staff member's attention and they were not at the desk. We had a car parked outside in a short-term stay so wanted to be able to get away quickly. All was well in the end, but a bell or similar might be a useful upgrade.

  : The breakfast was excellent. Perhaps missing some cold meat from the continental buffet, but the cooked breakfast was excellent. Eggs Florentine was really good, and the black pudding was honestly the best I can remember.
  : I booked a twin room for one night, as my daughter was attending the University of Edinburgh open day for prospective medical students. We arrived at 2pm, needing to change and freshen up, as we were not intending to return to the hotel until late in the evening. The really unhelpful receptionist stated that our room wasn't ready, and that there was nothing she could do. I asked what needed doing, and she said it hadn't been checked over after cleaning. I said I didn't mind if the room wasn't 100% ready, as we would only really need the bathroom, but she again said no. I asked if we waited a few minutes could the room be checked, and perhaps treated as a priority because we were there. She again said no, and that anyway she couldn't get in contact with the housekeeper as she had left her phone on charge! She finally suggested that we could use the toilets in the public area to change. These were very small facilities, and the lockable cubicles were too small to be used for this. Therefore both my daughter and I felt extremely exposed and uncomfortable whilst changing clothes in the open areas. When we were finally ready at 2.25pm, I again asked the receptionist if she could check whether our room was ready. She refused, and said we would have to wait until 3pm. I gave up and we went out.As it began to rain shortly afterwards, we made an unscheduled return to the hotel at 3.30pm. Our bags had been taken to our room, so we went up to collect waterproof coats. I found that despite booking a twin room, we had been given a double. When I went down to reception to complain, the (same) receptionist questioned whether I had made a mistake and had booked a double. I showed her my reservation. She then tried to blame the information provided by Booking com, before finally admitting that the hotel had made a mistake. We were then moved to the only room they had currently set up as a twin, which was actually a far nicer room than our original one.
