  : Perfectly cooked poached eggs (a rarity these days!) with good quality bacon and toasted granary loaf, set us up nicely for the day. Comfortable and peaceful room in cottage block (adjacent to the pub/restaurant). Great bar with lovely real ales and a pleasant atmosphere.
  : It was difficult to review this property because the room and breakfast were perfectly OK but all was badly let down by the quality of the restaurant (excluded from my rating), which we decided to go to in the evening. If you are just there for bed and breakfast then ignore the following. Firstly they had lost their only wine menu. Then they didn't have the dish I wanted, which I didn't find out about until well after I had ordered it. No replacement cutlery was provided after being taken away with our finished starters. The 'home-made beef lasagna' main course was, quite frankly, awful. Very intense sun-dried tomato flavoured layers with a very strong curdled/separated cheese topping, like eating a jar of Marmite. The chips that came with it seemed as if they had been cooked hours before and warmed up again for my plate, so were wrinkly, dried out and certainly not crisp on the outside. I know I could have complained at the time but I couldn't see how the lasagna could have been improved, given its ingredients. We noticed plenty of other plates being taken away with lots left on them, so decided to pay up and go back to our room.

  : The room was lovely, great decor, clean and very comfortable. The en-suite was clean and spacious with a great power shower. The room was in a great location, both for the nearby castle and main access route to Pembroke etc. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Great quality bacon and sausage with cooked breakfast, and lovely fresh bread for the toast.
  : We stayed for two nights, and it would have been great to have our room serviced in between sleeps, at least to have tea / coffee / biscuits replenished, which we ran out of. We paid the same daily rate for accommodation elsewhere in Wales in the days previous, and had our beds made and supplies replenished each day. It would also be really handy to have washing up liquid and a tea towel to wash up our cups if no one was coming in to do this each day. There were a few books in our room for decorative value, and it would have been great to have something relating to the history of the castle, as it is right on the doorstep. Our breakfast order was discarded after the first morning we were there, I guess on the assumption that we would reorder breakfast every evening, but nobody said if that was the case? Although everyone was very nice there seemed to be a little bit of uncertainty about what was going on. Welsh Brew tea would have been a nice touch instead of the not very nice Lichfield selection, hash browns would have been lovely with our cooked breakfasts, and the homemade chips as advertised on the menu were definitely not homemade. Would have been nice to have some soya or oat milk / yoghurt or some fresh fruit salad at breakfast for dairy free options. The upstairs toilets in the pub were a bit grotty, needed a good clean - stagnant loo brush water in one
