  : I love the size of the room and the size of the bed and that it has patio doors and a balcony because I need fresh air as I have copd. I also have fibromyalgia and having a spa bath helps with the pain immensely. But my husband prefers a shower which is also provided. The bathroom is very spacious. I also like the fact that there is a fridge and an iron and ironing board in the room. They also offer room service and the food is lovely from the restaurant.
  : Firstly that not just this hotel but all the hotels double the amount they charge for a room during the dates for the great north run, when people are mostly running for charity. It seems obscene that big companies are profiting from the very people who are giving their all for free and who are bringing custom to their town. Which brings me to the standard of their rooms if you are paying double the normal amount, you expect everything to be perfect.However this is not the case, when we entered the room it had a musty/smelly feet smell. As I was tired and the room looked clean I just sprayed my own perfume. Because I couldn't be bothered to complain, however the next day I went to use the shower and if I had been in it at the time it would have scolded me it was literally boiling and wouldn't regulate. I went to reception to tell them and they were very blaze about it said that they didn't have anyone on site to fix it and offered me the room next door which had a broken spa bath but the shower worked. There was no offer of a reduction in price as I wasn't getting the services I had paid for, just a basic that's it take it or leave it attitude. I have a feeling they knew the shower was broken because they knew the spa bath next door was broken so why had that not been fixed, I don't believe for one minute that the spa bath next door broke on the same day. It seems to me that general maintenance is very much lacking. The patio area had not been painted in a long time and the wood was looking tired. The table and chairs on the patio needed a good clean. Yes they are outside but still should have been cleaned. I have stayed here now for 2 years hopefully their standards will improve. Someone should go round inspecting these rooms after every changeover to make sure that everything is working and it is all clean and nothing has been overlooked. Not wait until the customer has to complain about it.
