  : Slightly further from Rynok Square than I realised. Lamborghini SUV parked outside front of hotel and directly below my first floor balcony turned out to belong to who I can only presume is the owners teenage son. He liked to impress his girlfriend and friends with the roar of the engine, sometimes without even going anywhere. I advise anyone not to take a room at the front of the hotel, which is a pity because there is a lovely view of the park and church opposite. My main gripe though is that there is a rooftop bar which, the hotel admit, defies the mandatory midnight curfew. I had assumed this meant that a handful of exclusively hotel guests would use it for a drink before bed as all of the other bars in Lviv seemed to respect the curfew and close at about 23:00. But boy was I wrong: this place has heavy security on the reception door who dont seem to like allowing guests through the main door without proof of booking, but are happy to admit scores of young herberts along with quite a few bored-looking ladies of the night. Many tables have shisha. This goes on until maybe 0300. How do I know this? Because until this time there was a constant slamming of taxi doors beneath my balcony. Oh, and the roar of the yellow Italian gangster tractor. How is this allowed to happen when the vast majority in Lviv are law-abiding, following the rules and making enormous sacrifices for their country? I asked the receptionist this on my departure. She gave an equally-exasperated shrug and a roll of the eyes.

  : Room had a balcony, good location not far from the main square in a quiet area. Rooftop bar was a nice bonus.
  : Cash only bar after 10pm and I had no cash!
