Cluanie Inn

Very Good

: Charming old inn accommodation and very well maintained. The staff were exceptional. Evening meal and breakfast was very good too.
: Stark contrast in our room was an un-furbished bathroom with noticeable mould on tired tiles. This let the deluxe room down, as the rest of the room was very nice.

Disappointing

: The breakfast room is lovely, and there is a good selection for breakfast. The staff are really nice too. That is the reason for giving 4/10. If I was rating the staff only it would be 10/10
: Its not at all authentic. Its trying too hard to replicate an olde worlde Scottish Inn but its just over the top and badly done, I would say tacky. Its not very clean (especially the public areas and toilets), the beds arent comfortable and the soundproofing in the bedrooms is terrible - we could hear other guests conversations. Its very expensive and because its so remote it feels like they take advantage and charge a fortune for everything. There is even a mandatory 10% added for service - you really have no choice but to eat there or drive for an hour. Not including the cost of the room and breakfast, our evening meal for 2 people with 2 non-alcoholic drinks, 1 shandy and 2 brandys was over 170! The food was basic. Our room should have been 280. But thankfully I got discounts through booking.com. If I had spent 450 for a night here and food I would have been even more disappointed. I think the room was worth what we paid with a discount at around 100. I would say the food and drinks should have been around the same. But at their prices, you get utterly spanked. This is a very average and basic establishment with super luxury boutique prices. Thank goodness for the lovely staff.

Pleasant

: Best thing about hotel is the scenery & remoteness, views of mountains are lovely and wildlife grazing nearby is special. Staff very friendly.
: Investment needs to go into the chef / menu so if paying 20+ for a dish its from locally sourced produce with care & creativity. Both the burger and Indian dishes we tried were very pub-chain standard and didnt feel freshly made. Lacked a Scottish charm warm feel to it, felt a bit confused with no nice private spaces to unwind. Will likely avoid the Black Swan chain of hotels next time were in Scotland.
