Disappointing

  : Modernised, very clean and comfortable reception areas. Great location and aesthetics.
  : Upon arrival, was told that there were no standard twin rooms, which we originally requested and had confirmed via the booking process. After initially trying to charge us for an additional room. Was then asked if we could just share the bed. Not really appropriate for a mother-son birthday retreat. An alternative solution was to place a temporary fold out bed, into a standard double which I slept on for both nights. The breakfast was drastically below par, only 2 staff members running a full restaurant. Meaning most items had been consumed and were not replaced for the duration of the breakfast. At no fault of the two great staff members that were working, they simply couldn’t cope. So at over £220 a night, for me to have to sleep on a fold out camp bed is one of the worst value for money hotel experiences I’ve ever had.

  : The hotel has a lovely mix of heritage and comfort, which we really enjoyed. The ease of ordering taxis and being close to many bars and restaurants was great. Breakfast was also great, a good spread with many traditional dishes you can try (black pudding, haggis).
  : The fitness room was very disappointing; an airless hole with a broken weights machine and a treadmill. Given the price of the hotel, I expected more. The booking process was cumbersome as I needed to alter a reservation.
