  : Positive check in and supportive staff on reception although the message of our early arrival hadn’t been passed on, they tried to get us checked in early
  : Negative breakfast. The food was great but waitress was rude. We were told to move despite no reservation on the table and plenty of space in the dining area - because the area - the lightest and best room in the hotel - was reserved for patrons with dogs. Those without dogs had to dine in a dark back room. We requested to stay where we were as we don’t mind dogs but we were met with an eye roll and huff. Then taken to a different - and worse - table than we had originally sat at. It was an unnecessarily negative experience. The room - although interesting - was poorly maintained and not worth £190.

  : Staff were excellent, helpful & friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Easy & quick check in. The hotel has a great historic vibe & is wonderfully quirky. The food was another highlight, it was very good indeed (we had dinner at the hotel, as well the cooked breakfast) with sizeable portions & it was well presented & nicely cooked.
  : Our room was rather scruffy, the bedside cabinets were scratched & missing paint & one large window pane had a large crack in it. Unfortunately the toilet hadn't been properly cleaned from the previous guests which wasn't so nice. There were some cobwebs & it needed some dusting. The low point was the bed: the worst soggy mattress I've tried to sleep on for years. It was like trying to sleep on a marshmallow! The mattress needs replacing urgently, something I did report to reception. Overall, the room had great character & potential, but needs some urgent repainting, regular dusting & fixing the minor issues.
