: 1.The room was quiet (important), spacious (not so important), and it was nice to be able to sit on the terrace at the back in the afternoon sun. The beds were comfortable, as were the chairs, and the shower was also fine. 2. Breakfast was really good - not the best breakfast of all time, per se, but a pretty good breakfast ... and eating it on a sunny and spacious veranda, overlooking a beautifully-maintained golf course (meaning we also had some entertainment from time to time) was a delightful way to spend an hour or so. 3. It's only a few minutes' drive into Karlsborg (and probably less than an hour to Hjo). so if you're planning to tootle down the western shore of Lake Vttern, this will never be a bad place to spend a night or two.
: 1. There was poor communication in the booking process. Whether this was the hotel's fault or booking.com's, I don't know. a. Booking.com's page on this hotel stated (and, as I type, still states) as a form of promotion (i.e. it has a big green "free" button next to it) that "Pets are allowed on request. No extra charges". We stated very clearly when we booked that we had a dog with us, but the two (always helpful and friendly, I should add) people who checked us in claimed this was not the case and tried to charge us 100kr. b. We paid for the room via booking.com, but the hotel had not received the money when we checked out. The man who checked us out was able to access what he called a "virtual credit card", and got the money as I stood there. I was worried my credit card would be hit twice but, a day later, it seems this will not happen and everything will be fine. But he clearly had no idea that we had paid booking.com, and that's not good. 2. The place is way out "in the sticks" (i.e. a long way from the nearest built-up area), and walking the dog late at night is not easy as it gets extremely dark - some lighting in and around the car park would have been appreciated. Thankfully, I'm not scared of the dark, so the mutt had a decent walk and a good sniff around anyway, but I would take a torch if I was planning to stay here again (which, I should add, is quite likely - Karlsborg and Hjo are delightful little places to visit, and this place is convenient for both).
