  : Casa Del Mago is in the center of town. It is one of most unique places we've ever stayed being carved into the side of a mountain hundreds of years ago. The hiking around the area is fantastic!
  : We understand that the room is hundreds of years old so we expected that there would be some quirks ie the bathroom is outside the room and up some stairs and is very small. What we were disappointed with is the bed. It is in need of immediate replacement. It sags terribly to the center. It was the reason we decided to leave early unfortunately.

  : If you love characterful, old properties then this place may be for you. It feels like a museum, furnished with very ecclectic taste. It was a great place to stay for 2 nights but I probably wouldn't have wanted to stay much longer. In general it needs a bit of TLC and some of the furniture needs replaced. The mattress was uncomfortable for 2 people and a new one is needed asap as you roll into the middle, making it difficult to get a good sleep. The toilet and shower were not an issue for us and the good water pressure made up for the small space. Not the easiest stair to navigate during the night though. Quite a few of the sockets were not working so the lighting wasn"t great. All of that said, it was a unique experience that we will not forget and I was very glad to stay there. It's location is perfect and it's very near the ticket office for the zip slide and the local bars and shops.

  : We knew when we booked that we were choosing to stay in a very unique property and as such there will always be limitations. Your bathroom is in the same building but you go out of your own front door and up a few steep stone steps - it was fine for us and nobody else has access to your bathroom but if you need to go to the bathroom during the night it could be tricky. The shower is very tiny but its the best the owners can fit into the space and it worked well. The location of the property is exceptional. We are glad we stay here and would recommend it, just be aware that you are booking a very special, ancient property. We stayed for 2 nights and it was the right decision to have this time to explore the area and the sun setting over the square and the valley in Castelmezzano was magical. A lot of people stop here as a day trip - I think they are missing out - try to stay a little longer.
  : We need to be understanding that tourism has not been easy in covid times and perhaps the budget is just not there, but it would not be too great a cost to put a new set of glasses in the kitchen and some new crockery. The bed linen was lovely but the bed is old - time for a new mattress. Although we slept fine, some people may find the bed a bit soft and saggy. Some reviews have said the sofa bed is old/ broken - we didn't use it so we don't know but it does look old. The apartment was generally clean but then when I looked through the books there was a lot of dust - again attention to detail that wouldn't cost a lot to fix.

  : This is one of the most unique places I have ever stayed. It's a house built straight into the side of a huge rock. It feels like something from the middle ages. The bed was a little sinky in the middle but I slept fine. The location is right in the center of town, and the room itself is spacious with a comfortable couch and a chair. The bathroom it tiny and up a set of stone stairs--it isn't the most comfortable bathroom but it is new and clean, and it's what you can expect for such a historic place. I loved opening up all the windows and just listening to people come and go. The balcony is small but I could put a kitchen chair there and enjoy my morning coffee. Communication with the host was easy with a Euro-enabled SIM, and the host gave some awesome local tips/recommendations. I really, really enjoyed our stay in Castelmezzano and would definitely stay in this property or the one upstairs!!!
  : Would be nice to have a little more light in the back (where the bed is) and the bed needs some supports in the middle. The toaster oven does not work.
